Opportune Business Network (OBN) provides a range of practical networking and business building opportunities. Our services are specifically designed for small to medium enterprises wanting to improve their existing business, increase profitability and create value more quickly.
Our network appeals to business entrepreneurs, owners and senior managers of SMEs, business coaches and other professionals seeking to understand the “business of business” and how the commercial world really works. We teach you how to build strategies that challenge competitors and win new customers. We put you in touch with like-minded business people. You will be able to access valuable knowledge and a range of services not normally available.
The network also appeals to CEOs and senior managers of larger corporations seeking to build their B2B customer base and engage with a wider cross section of businesses.
Colin began business life with the ANZ Banking Group before switching industries and joining British Petroleum. He subsequently held senior roles in NZ, Australia and the South Pacific. After leaving BP he owned an IT service company and later freelanced as a CEO undertaking recoveries in differing organisations. He later joined KPMG in NZ as Director of Business Strategy. Examples of some of his other roles are:
- CEO of a retail stationery and bookstore chain
- MD of a retail store design and build group
- MD of a light steel fabrication plant
- CEO of a telecommunications software development organisation
- CEO of an electricity generation measurement company
- An independent consultant across retail and commerce
- Chair of an R&D Emergency Vessel/Oil Spill recovery start-up
He is an independent Director on several boards and is currently a Vice President of Southport Chamber of Commerce plus a Director of the Opportune Business Network and of Opportune NFP Limited.
Deborah has been involved in business retailing and business networking for many years. She has owned and set up a number of businesses over the past 27 years, giving her a good understanding of general business issues and the requirements of business ownership.
Over the past seven years Deborah has established Opportune’s business networking and mentoring arms which host regular functions across SE Qld. Following the 2011 floods she secured various Government grants used to help revive the community with the Somerset Region plus project managed two other Business Expos to assist the revival of local businesses.
She is highly skilled and experienced in developing business connections, public speaking and teaching business groups how to prospect for new business and build valuable relationships.
Deborah is also a Board Member of the Business Enterprise Centre Ipswich Region; Secretary & Events co-ordinator of Southport Chamber of Commerce; Committee Member of Somerset Regional Business Alliance plus a Committee Member of Searchlight Inc, a charity which supports two Indigenous schools in SEQLD.
Networking Manager / Events Co-ordinator
Susan has had a wide variety of business experience over the past 20 years. She has worked in radio, print, been self-employed and managed many events. She has a very sympathetic understanding and appreciation of time constraints and pressures in business and is confident in dealing with directors, owners, managers or BDMs.
Susan understands the benefits of offering the personal touch, which is our speciality at Opportune Business Network. She is also an experienced Event Manager who has managed several large projects, ranging in size from 30 to a huge 800 participants over 3 days in 2 locations.
She was also instrumental in the planning, implementing, running and overseeing of the Ipswich Home & Lifestyle Expo in 2013.
Susan is a valued member of the Opportune Team.
Our Organisational Structure
The Opportune organisation consists of two entities – one being the commercial arm being Opportune Business Network Pty Ltd (OBN) and the other being our not-for-profit entity known as Opportune NFP Limited (ONFP).
Opportune Business Network provides specialist services to Owners and Managers in Networking, Mentoring, Business consulting, Strategy and Retailing.
Our not-for-profit arm focusses on our unique Business Improvement Clinics, Leadership Development, Grant Applications and Implementation and Event Creation and Management.
